Cop from Bihar who arrested Yasin Bhatkal gets Police Medal

Patna: IPS Officer Vinay Kumar, who was instrumental in the arrest of Indian Mujahideen terrorist Yasin Bhatkal was honored on Republic Day with Police Medal. Three sub inspectors of police, who took part in the operation were also awarded the medal.

Yasin Bhatkal, was arrested in 2013 in a joint operation of Bihar Police with inputs from security agencies.

Kumar, then posted as DSP of East Champaran district spearheaded the plan to arrest Bhatkal. The super-sensitive operation was kept a secret and very few people were aware of it,.

Bhatkal was subsequently handed over to NIA for interrogation in several terrorist attack cases in country, including German Bakery Blast case, in which he is prime accused.
