Bihar to have 3 Inter-River Linkages to contain Flood

Patna: Bihar will have 3 Inter-river Linkages in order to control Flood in certain parts and prevent drought in other parts.

The work is actively underway on the three links of inter-state river links in Bihar. The Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for these is ready . Under this 1st link is –Budhi Gandak –Noon Bayaa link for which the estimated cost is Rs. 4214 crore. The 2nd is Kosi-Mechi link having the estimated cost of Rs. 2903 crore while the 3rd one is Sakaree-Naata link of the estimated project cost of Rs. 572 crore.

Union Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Ms. Uma Bharti recently met Bihar Chief Minister Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi in Patna and assured him of speedy execution in this regard. She was in Patna on Monday.

Bharati said that since the Northern Bihar is affected by floods while the southern part of the state is drought prone. So there is a need to construct such a project on Kosi river so that the fury of flood could be reduced in the Northern part of the state while water could be provided to the southern part. She said Centre will support fully to the state in this regard.

In order to bring down pollution in river Ganga the Central Govt has sanctioned Rs.558 crore project to construct one each STP and sewage network at Beoor and Kamaali Chak and Rs. 453 Crores for a STP & sewage network in Saidpur.

According to a press release, she assured that the work will soon start so as to restore the flow of Ganga river along its banks in Patna.
