He added that a compensation of Rs 5 lakh has been provided to the family of the victim. Khattar called the incident unfortunate and said that he will ensure that such incident does not repeat.

A police vehicle belonging to Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar’s convoy ran over a pedestrian on the national highway near Karnal. The incident took place last night when the Chief Minister’s convoy was going to the national capital from Chandigarh.

Two policemen including the driver of the vehicle have also been injured in the incident. After the incident, all the three injured were taken to a trauma centre in Karnal where the pedestrian succumbed to the injuries. The incident raises question as to why the administration is trying to keep the whole episode into closed envelope.

Several Political leaders voiced against ‘VVIP culture’ in different states after this accident. BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao said that Khattar is a simple man adding that the chief minister and other ministers should see that they avoid such arrangements.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that political leaders consider themselves to be Gods after coming to power and they should avoid the same. AAP leader Ashutosh also condemned the very culture of using such facilities. NCP leader Tariq Anwar and DCW Chairperson Barkha Shukla also slammed the ‘VVIP culture’ and said that the political leaders should join with the people and that the leaders are for the service of the citizens
