Nadia: West Bengal police has announced a cash reward of rupees 1,00,000 for the person who would provide correct information on the gang rape of an elderly nun in West Bengal.

A 72-year-old nun was allegedly gang-raped in the Nadia district of West Bengal in early hours of Saturday. The nun has been admitted to hospital and her condition is reported to be critical.

Police said they have obtained the CCTV footage which shows that a group of men entered the Convent of Jesus and Mary school and gang-raped the elderly nun when she tried to stop them from looting the school. According to reports, there were a dozen dacoits involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, a priest, Saroj Biswas, condemned the act and called it inhuman. Christian leaders had joined local protesters in condemning the alleged gang rape – the latest incident to highlight the threat of sexual violence in India.

Enraged by the shocking incident, students and parents took out protests in the school campus and demanded immediate action. The protestors also blocked traffic and held demonstrations on railway tracks.
