Who said what on Supreme Court’s Decision to remove 66A of IT Act?

New Delhi/ Mumbai: Political leaders gave mixed reactions on Tuesday as Supreme Court struck down Section 66A terming it ‘unconstitutional’.

Supreme Court of India today struck  down Section 66A of IT Act

Congress leader Manish Tewari, BJP leaders Sambit Patra and Nalin Kohli welcomed the decision of the Court which will give freedom to express opinions freely on social media.

While welcoming the Supreme Court decision to strike down Section 66A of the IT Act as unconstitutional, Shashi Tharoor of the Congress hoped the NDA government would not try to rewrite the law in some other form.

Union Minister of Communications and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said that the decision of the Supreme Court on Section 66A is awaited by the ministry adding that the government respects the communication of ideas on social media. He also said that the government is not in favour of curtailing honest dissent or criticism on social media.

Meanwhile, JD (U) Chief Sharad Yadav said that the Court has not given a good judgement because freedom does not mean abusive language.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that such decisions should be taken after thorough discussions.
