Guwahati: Rumi Nath, a 34 Year old MLA of Indian National Congress from Assam, has been arrested for her alleged nexus with Car Theft Gang-pin. She was arrested at 7AM today, after her attempts to secure anticipatory bail failed.

According to reports, Police has alleged that she had links with Anil Chauhan, a man widely regarded as India’s “most-wanted car-lifter”. Evidence suggests that Rumi Nath had arranged car passes for the Assam assembly premises for Chauhan in 2013 and 2014.
Rumi Nath, however contested the claims saying that she was innocent and blamed a political conspiracy behind this. She said that she had recommended for the passes after getting request from Rita, who is Anil Chauhan’s wife and a Congress party worker.
Yesterday she had reiterated her stand that she did not know Chauhan and also dared police to arrest her if they have evidence.
Police says that 2 cases are pending against her- one registered with the Azara police station and the other registered with Dispur police station.
