Marvel’s latest comic book offering looking set to top records, as “Avengers: Age of Ultron” holds its European premiere in London. The second instalment in the Avengers series sees Captain America, Iron Man and co save the world once more in a star packed action movie.

But as the comic book hero movies continue to raise the bar, many of those starring in them are watching the themes become ever more serious.

Actress, Scarlett Johansson, says, “As the scope of these movies are larger and larger and the danger kind of looms larger and larger. I don’t want to say that the film has a darker tone but it has a darker tone and I think it’s maturing along with the fans.”

Actress, Elizabeth Olsen, says “Their humanity in this film and their weaknesses and all of that is very relatable in a way even if it’s, some of it’s kind of darker than a lot of peoples’ lives, yeah.”

The Marvel Universe shows no signs of slowing its cinematic expansion.

Many of the superteam of superheroes in the Avengers have their own franchises.

Scarlett Johannson and Chris Pine starring in the third “Captain America” movie set for release next year – one of several expected in the near future.

Actor, Chris Hemsworth, says “This whole universe that Marvel created, you know continually introducing new characters and finding a place for them to fit and that’s exciting.”

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” is released in the UK on April 23 and the United States on May 1.
