Kanti Thermal Power Plant, Muzaffarpur begins Production of 390MW Power

Muzaffarpur: The Kanti Thermal Power plant at Muzaffarpur in Bihar has started the production of power. Two units of 195 MW each has been commissioned and after 3 days the commercial production would commence here.

Minister of Energy, Bihar Government, Vijendra Prasad Yadav has said that people of Bihar would soon start getting power from Kanti Plant. Bihar is expected to get 264MW of Power from the 390MW of total production.

Kanti Thermal Power Station has been inoperational ever since 2003 when both its units stopped working.In 2006, Nitish Kumar announced the revamp of Kanti Thermal Power Station.

First started in 1985, Kanti Power Plant had original installed capacity of 110×2 MW. The Stage 2 of Plant having Capacity 2x195MW is ready for commercial production. The original planned capacity of each unit of Stage 2 was 250 MW but was reduced to 195 MW after Airport Authority of India raised concern over its chimney height.

Kanti Bijlee Utpadan Nigam Limited, which owns the plant is a joint venture of Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) and National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC). The majority shares of the Joint Venture Company is hold by NTPC,with NTPC 64.57% and BSEB 35.43%. Kanti is locate in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar and is about 90km from the State Capital Patna.
