Chhota Udaipur (Gujarat): In a bizarre incident, the Sarpanch of Devalia village in Chhota Udaipur forced a couple to do sit-ups holding ears of each other for eloping.
The lovers, who eloped were brought to the village and were insulted in front of the entire village. The girl is a student of class XI, and the boy a primary school dropout. Their relatives managed to trace them. They were brought back to the village.
A humiliating ceremony was organised and the couple was made to wear garlands made of cow-dung cakes. Their parents were also penalized. This all happened in the presence of the Sarpanch.
The video recording of the entire episode has sparked outrage among people.
