Australia: Five people are dead in southeast Queensland in Australia after their cars were swept away by flash floods. The deceased included three men, one woman and a five-year-old boy. Meteorologists said more than 360 millimeters of rain fell in about a three hour period Friday evening.

Police warned drivers to stay off the road.

“We often say when it’s flooded forget it. I say again, if it’s flooded forget it, if it’s flooded do not go through those roads because you never know how deep the water is. It might look shallow but it can certainly be a lot deeper”, Queensland Police Minister said.

Police say about 30 other people were rescued from their cars after being stranded north of Brisbane.
