Arun Jaitley to confer Dadasaheb Phalke Award to Actor Shashi Kapoor Today

Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor on Sunday will be conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke award during a grand ceremony at Prithvi Theatres in Mumbai. The award will be conferred by Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Arun Jaitley.

Kapoor debuted as an child actor at the age of four in the plays directed by his father Prithviraj Kapoor and later as a leading man in the 1961 film Dharmputra. In 1978, Kapoor set up his production house Film “Valas” and played major role in reviving the Prithvi Theatre group, set up by his father.

The Kapoor family- Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Karishma Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan along with other Bollywood celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Hema Malini, Rekha, Abhishek Bachchan and others graced the event with their presence. Kapoor could not travel to New Delhi when the national awards were presented by President Pranab Mukherjee on May 03 because of ill health.

The Kapoor family, usually termed as the first family of the film industry, has also prepared an audio-visual which will be screened at the event.
