Assam Students oppose Swapping of India-Bangladesh Land Enclaves

Guwahati: The All Assam Students Union (AASU) held protest march against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Assam and condemned the clearance of Bill to operationalise the Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh. The Bill paves the way for land exchange with Bangladesh in West Bengal, Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam.

The central government put prolonged efforts to bring Congress’ leaders on board to include Assam into the Bill’s ambit. Assam’s inclusion was an emotive issue for the people of the state.

Protesters came out on streets, lighting torches and condemning the Modi government for the move. Under the agreement with Bangladesh, Assam has to hand over 250-odd acres of land.
