CPIM’s Sitaram Yechury calls to intensify protest against fuel price hike

New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): General Secretary of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Sitaram Yechury called upon the central trade unions and party units to intensify protests against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government over the recent hike in fuel prices.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government on Saturday came under sharp attack from its rivals for increase in prices of petrol and diesel twice within a fortnight.

This is the second hike in the fuel prices with the first being on May 01. Calling it an attack on economy, Yechury said protests across the country must grow.

Yechury said the hike in fuel prices came at a time when rural India was already facing immense problems.
