Agartala, May 21 (ANI): Foundation stone for a textiles park was laid in Tripura state as part of the Central government’s decision to set up similar parks in all the eight states of the region. Minister of State for Textiles, Santosh Kumar Gangwar, laid the foundation stone for the Tripura unit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that the Apparel and Garment Making Centre’ (AGMC) shall be constructed in the northeastern states. The project is likely to provide employment to a large number of people and is expected to lead the large scale production and processing of garments in the remote northeastern region. The project also contributes to Modi’s ‘Make in India’ programme in textile sector. The initiative comes under the North East Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) of the ministry. NERTPS is an umbrella scheme for the development of various segments of textiles including silk, handlooms, handicrafts and apparels and garments.
