German Defence Minister arrives in India for stronger bilateral cooperation

New Delhi, May 26 (ANI): German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen arrived in India on Tuesday to deepen bilateral ties and focus on regional and international security and defence issues. Soon after arriving in Delhi, she visited war memorial Amar Jawan Jyoti and paid tribute to the fallen soldiers. Later, she was accorded guard of honour at the presidential palace where she also met German Ambassador to India, Michael Steiner. During her three-day visit, Leyen will hold bilateral talks with her counterpart Manohar Parrikar and also call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The German minister is also scheduled to visit the Army Research and Referral Hospital, the flagship medical unit of the Armed Forces Medical Services. Leyen will also visit the Western Naval Command in Mumbai city and tour the Indian Navy ship INS Mumbai. On May 28, Leyen will leave Mumbai for Singapore to participate in the Shangri-La Asia Security Summit.
