India, Bangladesh may discuss disputed river issue on Modi’s Dhaka visit

New Delhi, May 23 (ANI): New Delhi and Dhaka are likely to discuss the disputed Teesta River issue on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh next month. Agreeing a deal on equitable share of Teesta water is one of Bangladesh’s highest priorities in its relations with neighbouring India. Asked if the contentious issue would be raised during Modi’s visit, Bangladesh’s junior foreign affairs minister, Mohammad Shahriar Alam hinted at possible discussions. Meanwhile, India’s railway minister Suresh Prabhu lauded the recent signing of a land boundary agreement between the two neighbours. He added that India and Bangladesh had scope in areas of agreement like water, energy and infrastructure.
