Kolkata: Cricketing ties between India and Pakistan are set to resume with a series to be played in the United Arab Emirates in December.
The announcement of three tests matches, five one-day internationals and two T20 games came in Kolkata on Sunday (May 10) after a meeting between the countries’ governing bodies.
India and Pakistan have been at loggerheads since the Mumbai attacks of 2011 and last played a series in 2012-13, when Pakistan played three one-day games in India, winning 2-1.
International matches have not been staged in Pakistan since the Islamist attack on the touring Sri Lankan side in Lahore in 2009.
The decision to resume cricket ties was taken at a meeting between Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shahryar Khan and Board of Control for Cricket in India chairman Jagmohan Dalmiya.
“This is a revival of Pakistan-India cricket which is so important to the cricketing community in India and Pakistan and also the world,” said Khan.
Dalmiya said: “We are sure that regular cricketing ties between India and Pakistan can resume only if we conduct cricket series between the two countries. We are working for that and we are eagerly waiting for the series in December.”
According to an agreement between the two countries, they will play eight series at neutral venues in the next five years.
