Jayalalithaa re-elected as AIADMK legislature party leader after O Panneerselvam resigns as TN CM

Chennai, May 22 (ANI): AIADMK legislators on Friday re-elected J Jayalalithaa as the legislative party leader paving the way for her to become the chief minister as early by Saturday. AIADMK legislators, including chief minister O Panneerselvam, assembled at the party headquarters in Chennai early morning and re-elected Jayalalithaa as its party legislative chief. O Panneerselvam, who was in charge of the CM office while Jayalalithaa was acquitted in a disproportionate case, resigned from the office in the morning as he met Tamil Nadu Governor Konijeti Rosaiah at Raj Bhawan. Panneerselvam later headed to Jayalaithaa’s Poes Garden residence and the two is expected to meet the state governor later in the day where the latter will stake claim as CM. Soon after the decision was announced, there was a blast of celebrations outside AIADMK office with party supporters dancing and singing and expressing happiness on the ‘return of Amma’.
