Meghalaya Bandh called on May 26-28 by HNLC

A 48 hours Meghalaya Bandh starting from May 26, 2015 has been called by banned outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC). HNLC is protesting against thr delay in passage of the Village Administration Bill in the state Legislative Assmebly.

According to a report in Shillong Times, the 48 hours Meghalaya bandh will start from 6 pm of May 26 (Tuesday) and continue till 6 pm on May 28. Since the presence of HNLC is limited, the Bandh would only impact the areas of Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.

HNLC has however exempted certain essential services from the purview of Bandh. It includes, hospitals, ambulance services, media houses, medical attendants and religious ceremonies

The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) is a militant organization operating in Meghalaya, India. It claims to be a representative of the Khasi-Jaintia tribal people, and its aim is to free the Meghalaya from the alleged domination of the Garos and the non-tribal outsiders (the “Dkhars”). It was proscribed by the Government of India on 16 November 2000.

In a statement released on Friday, it supported various individuals and pressure groups who have been demanding Governor’s Approval to the Village Administration Bill.
