Heatwave in India 2015: At least 300 people dead, Andhra Telangana badly hit

Visakhapatnam/ Allahabad, May 24 (ANI): Most of India is in severe heat wave grip as temperatures have risen sharply in the last few days.

At least, 335 deaths have been reported across India, with Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states accounting for more than 200 deaths. Hot and dry winds from northern and central India are leading to the rise in temperatures in Andhra Pradesh state, said Meteorological Department.

Pregnant women and new born babies in government hospitals are the most affected due to power cuts. Shortage of beds has led to overcrowding and many patients have been forced to share beds. Hospital authorities have been forced to postpone all major surgeries.

Meanwhile, Allahabad is also witnessing a severe heat wave with temperatures hovering around 45 degrees Celsius. People have been forced to stay indoors and roads are deserted.
