People join hands to spread awareness on ‘World No Tobacco Day’ in India

Shimla/ Panaji/ Chennai, May 31 (ANI): Cities across India witnessed anti-tobacco campaigns, with people coming together to spread awareness on World No Tobacco Day, observed on May 31. Hundreds of school and college students came together to organise an anti-tobacco rally, and a campaign to discourage use of tobacco products, in Shimla city of Himachal Pradesh. The campaign, jointly organised by the Himachal Pradesh Voluntary Health Organisation and the Health and Family Welfare Department of the state government, aimed to stop not only the use of tobacco but also the production and advertisement of tobacco products in the country. The increase in the number of kiosks selling tobacco products near schools has exposed children to the perils of smoking. The organisers of the event stressed that anti-tobacco awareness campaigns must target school-goers, as most users fall to such habits at an early age. In Chennai city of Tamil Nadu, a medical institute organised an exhibition on Sunday displaying the health hazards of tobacco.
