People Smugglers of Mediterranean make $90000 for each Boatload of Migrants: Italy

Sicily: An Italian Coast Guard vessel reaches an overcrowded migrant boat in the Mediterranean. Nearly 3,700 migrants were rescued near the coast of Libya, Saturday and early Sunday, authorities say, and were being brought to Italian shores. Even more rescue operations are expected Sunday.

The Coast Guard said some of the migrants rescued so far were brought to the island of Lampedusa overnight. Their nationalities were not immediately determined.

An ongoing investigation by Italian authorities shows that the growing anarchy in Libya is giving free hand to people-smugglers … who make an average of 80,000 euros — or $90,000 U.S. dollars — from each boatload of migrants.

Italy’s coast guard says smugglers are also taking advantage of calm seas… and the government says the calm summer seas could push total arrivals in Italy this year to some 200,000.
