Petition filed before TN Governor to delay Jayalalithaa’s oath ceremony as CM

Chennai, May 17 (ANI): Social activist and a lawyer in Tamil Nadu submitted a petition to Governor Konijeti Rosaiah to prevent former chief minister J Jayalalithaa from swearing-in as the state chief for now. The Karnataka High Court on May 11 acquitted Jayalalithaa in a graft case that forced her to step down from power last year. The acquittal paved way for her return to power. The Karnataka government will file a petition before the Supreme Court in seven days to over-turn the decision by the high court. Jayalalithaa was sentenced to prison last year for holding 530 million rupees of unaccounted cash and property. She stepped down as chief minister of Tamil Nadu state following the verdict by a trial court, appointing a loyalist supporter to the post.
