Politicos react over Geelani passport row

New Delhi, May 21 (ANI): Minister of State for Prime Minister’s office Jitendra Singh said on Thursday) that due procedure would be followed while deciding on the application for issuance of passport to Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Meanwhile, Minister of State for minority affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said Geelani is bearing the fruit of his anti-national activities. However, Congress maintained the BJP government has “bowed down to the separatists”. Geelani, a leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has applied for an Indian passport to visit his ailing daughter Farhat Jabeen Geelani in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. His passport was seized by authorities in 1981 but an intervention by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2007 facilitated the release of his travel documents on medical grounds for travelling to the United States. At that time Geelani was issued the passport on Tatkal basis and it was valid for only one year.
