Travel mart promotes tourism in flood-hit Kashmir

Srinagar, May 19 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir hosted a Travel Mart in capital Srinagar city to promote the valley as one of the top tourist destinations in the world. It aims to promote tourism and clear doubts about the post flood situation in Srinagar. In April, Kashmir witnessed second major flood in six months, worrying the residents that inadequate flood-control infrastructure in the region could see them facing yet more death and devastation. The last year’s flooding in September 2014 caused damage worth crores of rupees to the Kashmir region and killed more than 300 people. Meanwhile, tourism and travel delegates from various states attended the event. The officials at the event said their focus is to attract domestic tourists by promoting sports and adventure tourism in the state and build necessary infrastructure for the same. Representatives of several state tourism departments said they are collaborating with Jammu and Kashmir tourism department to offer new packages to tourists and travelers. The event also saw many stalls displaying traditional art and handicrafts of Jammu and Kashmir.
