The 38.51-carat Colombian emerald has no oil added, which Lim explains means that the colour has not been enhanced in any way.

“Well for the Magnificent Jewels sale this spring we have over 300 lots and it’s priced at 85 million US dollars. One of them being this emerald bangle by Etcetera. It has a 38-carat emerald from Colombia, no oil and it will be the largest emerald ever placed at auction. The largest emerald being the largest emerald from Colombia, the most sought-after origin with no oil at all,” she said, adding that the piece was expected to fetch in excess of $2 million (USD) at auction.

Another highlight was a Burmese no heat pigeon’s blood ruby necklace of 120 carats, also by Etcetera, expected to fetch up to $11 million (USD).

Several jade items from the family collection of K’ung Hsiang-Hsi, a 75th generation descendent of Confucius, will also be included in the sale.

K’ung Hsiang-Hsi married Soong Ai-ling and, according to Christie’s, the couple amassed one of the most important collections of jewelry, jadeite, Chinese paintings and works of art in modern Chinese.
