Congress drags PM Modi into Sushma -Lalit Modi controversy (Part -2)

New Delhi, June 15 (ANI): The Congress party on Monday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Sushma Lalit controversy. Addressing mediapersons in New Delhi, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the prime minister must have been aware of the help being extended to the former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi. Listing charges faced by Lalit Modi, Surjewala pointed that the former IPL chief was “admittedly a fugitive” and “India had issued as many as eight showcause notices to him”. He targeted PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, asking what relationship they had with Lalit Modi. External affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had yesterday admitted that she had helped Lalit Modi procure documents to travel to Portugal last July on “humanitarian grounds”. Sushma, in a series of 14 tweets, had said she had helped Lalit Modi, who has been staying in London since 2010 following allegations of financial impropriety, after he approached her last July, saying his wife was suffering from cancer and was to undergo surgery in Portugal. The minister, however, had denied having sought any favour for her nephew Jyotirmay Kaushal with regard to his admission in a law course at Sussex University.
