India starts telemedicine service for soldiers and villagers at border areas

Siliguri/ RS Pora, June 13 (ANI): Paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) started telemedicine service programme for soldiers and villagers living along Bangladesh and Pakistan borders. Telemedicine refers to the use of communications and information technologies for the delivery of clinical care, health professionals discussing a case over the telephone, or as complex as using satellite technology and video-conferencing equipment to conduct a real-time consultation between medical specialists in two different countries. It helps eliminate distance barriers and can improve access to medical services that would often not be consistently available in distant rural communities. Keeping in mind the remote conditions along border areas, senior administrative and medical officials of BSF from different parts of the country met in West Bengal’s Siliguri city and took a final call on the matter. He added that the programme aimed to cover the entire force and civilians at the border.
