Marble temple of Jains nears completion in Kochi

Kochi, June 23 (ANI): The southern India will soon get a temple made of marbles only. The minority Jain community living in Kerala state is constructing the temple in Kochi city. President of Shree Ernakulam Shwetambar Murtipujak Jain Sangh, the trust that runs the temple, Mohan Das C Jain claimed that this would be the only temple made of marbles in southern India. The temple has been devoted to the 12th Tirthankar Vasupujya Swami. The construction of temple began in 2007. Artisans from northwestern Rajasthan state have been brought for chiseling and polishing work on the temple. Nearly 350 tonnes of marble were brought from Rajasthan for the beautification of the temple. About 90 percent of the work is over and the remaining will be done before Paryushan, the most-celebrated festival of Jain community, in September. The temple has started attracting attention for its ornamental detail and minutely-carved ceilings, doorways and pillars.
