Muslims in Kashmir observe fast during Ramadan

Srinagar, June 25 (ANI): Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir observed fast and prayed in mosques as they marked the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan, which began on June 19 this year, is the ninth month of the Muslim lunar calendar and traditionally a time of religious fervour, settling old disputes and performing charitable deeds towards the less fortunate. Muslims get up before dawn to eat sahur (an early meal), and will then stop eating and drinking, known as roza (fasting), until called for the fourth prayer of the day, maghrib, at sunset time. Believers are then allowed to eat until the subsequent morning prayers, Fajr. Many said they were lucky to experience the long fasting period in their lifetime. Ramadan culminates in the festival of Eid-al-Fitr which means “the feast of breaking fast”.
