Pakistani Sikhs protest against 1984 golden temple carnage

Lahore, June 07 (ANI): The Sikh community living in Pakistan’s Lahore staged a protest demonstration against the genocide of Sikhs in India in 1984 following the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The protest was staged under the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. Thousands of Sikhs were killed in series of mob attacks on the community in India in response to the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards. Hundreds of Gurudwaras and thousands of copies of the Sikh holy book, Guru Granth Sahib, were burnt and desecrated. Scores of protesters, including women, gathered outside the provincial assembly building in Lahore, chanting slogans against the Indian government and demanding justice for the innocent Sikhs who were killed during operation Golden Temple. Protest leaders rued the fact that even after 25 years, no one has been punished for the atrocities. The organizers and perpetrators of the genocide roam free and even enjoy positions of power.
