1400 Fake Degree Holding Teachers resign in Bihar after High Court’s Ultimatum

In one of the rare cases of mass resignation, nearly 1400 teachers resigned in Bihar after Patna High Court issued ultimatum to fake degree holders that either they resign voluntarily or face action if found possessing counterfeit educational degrees.

The Government has put a deadline of July 8 for such teachers to quit their jobs. On the first day nearly 1400 teachers resigned. More such resignations are expected in coming days.

Acting on Patna High Court order, the state Government had issued ultimatum that a strict action will be taken against those teachers possessing fake certificates who do not resign within the stipulated period. FIRs will be lodged against them, their services will be terminated and the government will move for recovery of salary and other benefits given to them.

Ever since CM Nitish Kumar came to power in 2005, there had been mass recruitments of teachers in Government owned Primary and Secondary Schools. Activists allege that a large number of such teachers took the job over fake educational certificates. Several PILs were subsequently filed in the Patna High Court demanding cancellation of such appointments and a probe into it.

Few days back, a bench of judges comprising Chief Justice L Narasimha Reddy and Justice Sudhir Singh
issued the order that either such teachers voluntarily resign within a deadline or face action.
