Lucknow, July 30 (ANI): At least 55 students fell ill after consuming contaminated milk served at a school meal at Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. The students of Arya Samaj Primary Education School complained of stomach pain after consuming flavoured milk which was part of their midday meal. The students were rushed to a nearby hospital. Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi said the doctors confirmed that the milk was contaminated. Additional District Magistrate, Poorvi Nidhi Srivastava, said that food inspectors have seized samples of the milk for further investigation. The midday meal scheme, which gives more than 100 million students of government schools across the country a free lunch, is the largest such programme in the world. It has been widely lauded as one of the most successful welfare measures in India.
