Kochi, July 09 (ANI): The Central Institute of Fisheries Technology in Kochi has introduced boats made of coconut tree wood as a cheaper alternative to the fishermen.
Fishermen spend a lot of money on building boats made out of traditional wood. But the newly introduced ‘coconut boats’ are cheaper and environmental friendly, say officials.
The increasing scarcity of conventional boat building timbers like jungle jack (Artocarpus hirsutus), Punna (Calophyllum inophyllum), Mango (Mangifera indica) etc pushed the department to look for alternative materials.
