Cricket, militant attacks can’t go hand-in-hand, BCCI tells Pakistan

New Delhi, July 28 (ANI): A senior official of the Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI), Anurag Thakur, has said series with Pakistan could not take place amid militant attacks. Police overcame heavily armed men dressed in military fatigues earlier on Monday after a 12-hour gun battle that left at least nine people dead at a police station in Punjab, close to the border with Pakistan. Thakur, who is also lawmaker of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said safety and security of the citizens was more important than game of cricket. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expects bilateral series with India to resume in the United Arab Emirates in 2015 December but there was no confirmation from its powerful cross-border counterpart. In May, PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan said after meeting Indian board chief Jagmohan Dalmiya that the series will feature three tests, five one-dayers and two Twenty20 internationals.
