Dawood offered to come to India but Sharad Pawar govt didn’t allow: Jethmalani

Mumbai, July 04 (ANI): Senior Advocate Ram Jethmalani on Saturday claimed that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his close associate, Chhota Shakeel, had offered to surrender to Indian authorities in the 90s, but the then-Maharashtra chief minister Sharad Pawar had rejected the offer. Jethmalani said that he had a conversation with Dawood who told him that he is ready to come to India and face the investigation process of cases against him but the authorities should assure him that third degree torture shall not be applied. Jethmalani said that he had given the request in written to Maharashtra government, then led by Chief Minister Sharad Pawar, which rejected the offer and did not even give the reply in writing. The advocate further alleged that the decision was not Pawar government’s alone, UPA might also be involved.
