Delhi govt increases VAT on Petrol and Diesel, Politicos react

New Delhi/ Noida, July 16 (ANI): The Delhi government has hiked the VAT on petrol and diesel prices making it costlier. The decision came after there was a demand to maintain stability in fuel prices along the northern states. Petrol and diesel prices were on Wednesday cut by Rs 2 per litre, excluding local levies, in the second reduction of rates this month by oil companies, but the petrol would actually become costlier in the national capital due to an increase in VAT rate. President of BJP’s Delhi unit Satish Upadhyay said that the AAP government is showing its double standards. Congress leader Rashid Alvi condemned the decision saying that the government is doing exactly the opposite of what it promised. Meanwhile, AAP leader Ashish Khetan said that it was an administrative decision adding that diesel prices have been slashed by nearly 50 percent as compared to a few years back.
