Dutch environmentalist approaches court against illegal tree felling in Himachal Pradesh

Dharamsala, July 03 (ANI): A Dutch environmentalist has approached high court in Himachal Pradesh to intervene in illegal tree felling in hill town Dharamsala and other nearby areas. The petitioner, Gazala Abdullah, has alleged that a large number of Deodar trees are being felled in Dharamsala’s suburb McLeodganj for commercial activities. Filing her petition with the high court, Abdullah alleged the trees are being felled for the construction of hotels and other commercial complexes, most of which are illegal. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan have directed the Divisional Forest Officer of Kangra district, Deputy Commissioner of Kangra, Superintendent of Police Kangra and Superintendent of Police, Crime Investigation Department (CID) Kangra along with the concerned Station House Officer (SHO) to be present in the court on July 06 to explain their position on continued felling of trees in McLeodganj.
