Fresh landslides in Darjeeling leave many stranded

Darjeeling, June 2 (ANI): Fresh landslides in Gayabari forest area of Darjeeling left many locals and tourists stranded on Thursday. The main highway that links Siliguri and Mirik in Darjeeling was closed as the roads got washed away in heavy rainfall. People could be seen carrying their luggage to their destination as vehicles remained off road. Darjeeling in West Bengal has witnessed a series of landslides due to rainfall in the recent days. According to local media reports, at least 38 people have died, 23 are missing and more than 500 have been displaced in the area. Many highways are closed and even some portions of bridges have washed away, cutting off the road linking to main regions.
