Garbage piles up as sanitation workers continue strike in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 11 (ANI): Residents in Hyderabad were struggling with stench emanating from heaps of garbage dumped on streets as sanitation workers were on strike in Telangana. Overflowing garbage bins were a common sight across the city as sanitation workers, under the aegis of Workers United Association at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), showed no sign of calling off their strike. Residents fear health hazards as indisposed garbage has piled up at roadsides from past few days. The protesting sanitation workers have been sitting on indefinite strike from June 07. They have been demanding regularisation of services of contract workers, pay hike and homes for employees. Senior ministers of the state government have held talks with the sanitation workers but they have been inconclusive so far.
