Hindu and Muslim girl wish to marry each other in Bihar

Madhubani, July 03 (ANI): In India, where sexual activity between two persons of the same sex is criminalised and a punishable offence, a Muslim and a Hindu girl from Bihar have expressed their desire to marry each other. The girls – Najma Khatan and Neelam Kumari – belong to a village in Madhubani district. The childhood friends have been hoping to get married for the last three years, when they realized they cannot live without each other. Khatan and Kumari are in a live-in relationship for the last three years. Kumari’s parents had recently filed a police complaint against Khatan and her family after girls fled the village in a bid to get married. They were found by their relatives and handed over to police. The police have sent the girls under a medical check up to verify their age and take legal action accordingly.
