India pays tribute to former president APJ Abdul Kalam

New Delhi, July 28 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee led the nation in paying tribute to former president Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, who died at the age of 83, on Monday. Mukherjee referred to Kalam as a “friend” and “people’s President”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the death of country’s 11th President. Kalam, a renowned scientist, collapsed while delivery a lecture at Indian Institute of Management in Shillong. He was rushed to a hospital where he breathed his last. Kalam was born in Rameswaram on October 15, 1931 to a boatman. He served as the President of India from 2002 to 2007. Known as India’s ‘Missile Man’, Kalam worked as a scientist and science administrator for four decades, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) before he became President. He was intimately involved in the country’s civilian space program and military missile development efforts.
