Landslides from heavy rainfall shut down highway in Uttarakhand

Nainital, July 02 (ANI): Heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand state has triggered landslides leading to the closure of Haldwani-Ramnagar highway. Many tourists were stranded on the highway. Trees and rocks have fallen on the road making it difficult for the tourists to travel. A tourist, Praveen, said that he was travelling to Haridwar but was stuck on the highway. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the country received around 189.5 millimetres of rain in June as against a normal of around 163.6 millimetres.
