Protesters block traffic, call for shutdown demanding AIIMS facility in Jammu

Jammu, July 31(ANI): Activists of two regional parties forced a shutdown in Jammu town on Friday demanding a premier health care hospital like All India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The protesters forced closure of shops and burned tyres at important intersections of Jammu to block traffic. The protesters belonging to Sikh United Front and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party have threatened a three-day shutdown if the government did not announce setting up of AIIMS in Jammu. The central government has announced to set up a new AIIMS in Srinagar, summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The protesters were furious with Health Minister JP Nadda who said that Jammu region will also get AIIMS-like facility in the wake of demands by locals. General Secretary of Sikh United Front, Avtar Singh Khalsa accused the BJP of going back on its promise to set up AIIMS in Jammu. The Centre has announced that it plans to set up six new AIIMS in six different states in order to cater to the increasingly growing demands for more doctors across the country.
