Pushkaralu ghat stampede: AP CM meets injured, announces Rs10 lakh ex-gratia for victims

Rajahmundry, July 14 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday visited the hospital and met the people injured during Pushkaralu ghat stampede. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs10 lakh to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the incident. The death toll of the Pushkaralu ghat stampede has gone up to 16 and the number of people injured in the incident has risen to 25. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh took to twitter to express his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the stampede. “Heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in stampede at Rajahmundry and pray for speedy recovery of the injured,” he tweeted. Meanwhile, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi expressed shock over the tragic stampede that occurred at the Pushkaralu ghat in Rajahmundry via a series of tweets. The tragedy took place during the ‘Maha Pushkaralu’ festival. Officials fear that the death toll is likely to rise as some of the injured are in a serious condition.
