Sea of humanity at the culmination of Rath Yatra

Puri, July 31 (ANI): About one million devotees from across the world descended at Puri city to witness the culmination of the annual rath yatra or chariot festival. The idols of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balaram and sister Subhadra were taken inside the temple on Thursday, four days after the chariots carrying the idols reached the main temple in Puri after a nine-day long sojourn at Gundicha temple or the ‘Mausi Maa’ (aunt’s) temple. As the priests carried out the rituals, devotees circumambulated around the chariot and recited hymns. The idols of the three deities were beautifully decorated in golden attire, called “Suna Besha”. Devotees were enthralled to get a glimpse of the idols amid the rush. Meanwhile, the administration made sure that the celebrations went on smoothly.
