State level championships help promote local talent in the northeast

Manipur, July 13 (ANI): Some 300 players from five districts of Manipur participated in a state level martial arts event called “Jeet Kune-Do Championship”. The three-day contest held at Yairipok Bishnunaha Indoor Stadium in Imphal was organised by the Jeet kune Do association of Manipur under three categories – Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior. The main objective of the championship was to develop the skills and techniques of the players as well as a part of selection for the upcoming National event. In Jorhat city of Assam, a match was played between Jorhat Town Club and Rising Star at Jorhat Stadium as a part of the ongoing Assam premier league. The two-month-long Assam premier league is being held under the aegis of Assam Football Association (AFA) with an aim to provide a platform to local players. Altogether 12 clubs, six clubs each from Upper Assam and Lower Assam are participating in the tournament. Youngsters in northeast are naturally inclined towards sports. Regularly providing them with such platforms to showcase their skills will go a long way in encouraging them to perform better.
