Centre to SC: Parties can’t be brought under RTI

New Delhi, Aug 24 (ANI): Political parties must not be brought under RTI or Right to Information Act as they are not public authorities, the Centre told the Supreme Court on Monday. On a petition, the government argued that political parties are not “public authorities” as they are not set up under the Constitution or any law enacted by Parliament – they can’t be treated as an institution or establishment. Reacting over this, senior advocate Prashant Bhushan slammed the government and said that it wants to destroy the RTI act completely. Meanwhile, the Congress party cleared its stand saying the political parties should not be brought under the ambit of RTI.
