Congress party gifts onions on occasion of Raksha Bandhan in Jaipur

Jaipur, August 28 (ANI): Congress party gifted onions to people on Friday on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan in Jaipur. Congress workers, as mark of protest against the government, gave onions to men to gift them to their sisters for the festival that will be celebrated across the country on Saturday. Also, women who tied rakhis to men at the open market that sold onions at half the market price, were gifted the staple in return. Rakhi is a symbolic holy thread a sister ties ceremoniously on the wrist of her brother as a mark of revered bondage between them. Raksha Bandhan is a festive occasion that falls on the full moon day and is celebrated by Hindus, almost throughout India. Prices of the vegetable have hit 80 rupees in India as scant monsoon rain delays plantings. In 2013, prices hit around 100 rupees in the country, leading to protests across cities and making it a political issue. Congress leader Archana Sharma alleged that anti-people policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government have burdened the people.
