Shimla, Aug 09 (ANI): Heavy rains lashed hilly state of Himachal Pradesh causing landslides, disrupting normal life and transportation in the region. The meteorological department said some of the areas received nearly 10 mm rainfall and the continuous rain has disrupted electricity and water supply in the region. Several low-lying areas in provincial capital Shimla were submerged in water, forcing the authorities to shut down schools. Annual rainfall is essential as rains support two- third of the 1.25 billion population living in rural areas who rely on farming. But excessive rainfalls cause problems like floods, landslide, and water borne diseases.
